Job Overview

The primary responsibility of the Business Development Consultant (BDC) is to develop a strong rapport with an existing set customer base, maintain a clear understanding of how the customer base is using Rackspace solutions, and generate new business within the customer base by solving solutions through leveraging the Rackspace product portfolio.  BDC’s also work closely with other account team members (i.e. Account Managers, Lead Tech, and Sales Engineers), to ensure Rackspace is continually delivering customers with a world class customer service experience. 


Job Responsibilities

In this role you will:

  • Be responsible for full cycle sales from lead to close
  • Display superior presentation and negotiation skills in order to gain new business
  • Be expected to meet and exceed a monthly sales quota
  • Work closely with Sales Engineers to provide the right solution to the customer
  • Maintain constant communication with the customer to ensure you know how they are using the Rackspace portfolio
  • Work closely with highly engaged sales team as well as the various supporting teams. Ability to work and play hard as well


Job Requirements


Required Qualifications:

  • BDC I: A minimum of 1-3 years successful sales experience preferably in Technology or Related Industry
  • BDC II: A minimum of 3-5 years successful sales experience preferably in Technology or Related Industry
  • BDC III: A minimum of 5-7 years successful sales experience preferably in Technology or Related Industry
  • Bachelor’s degree preferably in Sales, Marketing, Business or a related field
  • Experience of strategic selling at Executive and Board level
  • B2B Sales experience 
  • Knowledgeable in professional sales training and sales process
  • Possesses superior follow up skills with the ability to respond under pressure
  • Able to work to a monthly target and be able to effectively communicate over the phone, through email and face-to-face
  • Superior negotiation skills
  • Strong presentation, written and verbal communication skills
  • Goal oriented with superior work ethic
  • Proven territory / vertical market sales development skills
  • Effective time management skills
  • Must be able to generate and qualify excellent customer leads

Sales experience in hosting, SAAS, or Cloud Computing industry preferred. At the manager’s discretion a High school diploma or equivalent plus an additional 4 years of relevant sales experience may substitute for the degree requirement.




General office environment.  May require long periods sitting and viewing a computer monitor.  Moderate levels of stress may occur at times.  No special physical demands required.
