Digital Product Engineering is seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Software Development Manager, who will manage and mentor a team of software developers whose responsibility is designing and developing software for application deployment, automation, and CI/CD services for Managed Applications. You will work with a team of top talent who build some of the coolest, cutting edge software to do DevOpsy things like automate application deployment. Our team moves fast, gets things done, cares about quality, and loves to come up with innovative ways to deliver tools and APIs to fellow Rackers and customers. We follow a Lean Startup approach to development. Fun, challenging, but not for the faint of heart!



  • Be accountable for developing software to be deployed into a large scale, geographically dispersed and highly available production environments
  • Manages a software development team which may consist of on-site and remote members of varying levels of experience
  • Mentors developing team members
  • Leverages the experience of more seasoned team members to help increase the team's overall capability
  • Ensures all team members have an awesome career path
  • Partners with Product Managers to adopt and productize features
  • Works with team members and the Program Management team to ensure features are appropriately broken down, sized and scoped for efficient execution by the development team.
  • Partners with all stakeholders to ensure the current and projected team size is appropriate for the Engineering and Product road map
  • Ensure future development is testable (integration, load, performance, and high availability)
  • Ensure future development can be continuously integrated and deployable to production
  • Ensures that monitoring and maintainability are baked into the software development practices
  • Partners with Supports staff to ensure that future development is supportable and support pain points are timely addressed
  • Ensures team members adopt, embrace and enhance software development processes and best practices to achieve efficient and predictable delivery of features
  • Be the subject matter expert for the responsible area


The ideal candidate will have the following:


● Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field; Master’s degree preferred

● Minimum of 5 years of experience in directly leading/managing a team of 5 to 7 software developers

● Minimum of 5 years of experience as a software developer

● Experienced in building high-performance, highly available and reliable software for a large-scale, geographically dispersed production environment

● Experienced in building software in Python on Linux platform

● Good working knowledge of server virtualization

● Good working knowledge of MySql and message queuing technologies

● Good working knowledge of distributed architecture

● Good working knowledge of Source Control Management practices

● Good working knowledge of the Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment practices

● Demonstrated exceptional management and people skills

● Demonstrated expertise software engineering processes

● Demonstrated ability to lead both developing and highly experienced software developers

● Demonstrated experience in cross-functional collaboration and leadership

● Demonstrated experience in all aspects of personnel management: hiring, mentoring and performance management
