Overview & Responsibilities

Rackspace is looking for a software developer to join our Customer Management and SignUp team.

 

As a developer, you will be working on the Rackspace’s Customer Management and SignUp services that provide a centralized  API for onboarding and managing customers.  You should have a passion for large-scale distributed systems from design to deploy, even if that means touching multiple repositories written in several languages within a single day.

 

You will be responsible for translating functional requirements into conceptual and detailed designs; providing estimates for development effort in scrum fashion; implementing proof of concept, prototypes and production-grade software; creating unit and functional tests; automated deployments. 

 

What You’ll Do:

  • Write excellent, fully-tested code in Java
  • Provide in-depth and always-improving code reviews to your teammates
  • Continually improve our software pipeline
  • Troubleshoot and support production, addressing technical debt to improve sustainability
  • Scope and estimate work to help with overall project planning
  • Communicate and write wiki articles to effectively convey and document complex technical concepts and processes
  • Assist in designing or modifying existing systems to meet the needs of Rackspace’s business partners

 

Tools We Use:

Slack, Jira, Github, Java, Spring Framework, Scala, Python,  Gradle, Maven, Jenkins, Linux (CentOS), PostgreSQL, Puppet, Ansible

 

 

 

 

Qualifications

 

  • 5-7 years of Software development experience in Java
  • Strong experience in server side programming on the business logic tier
  • Experience building and consuming REST API strongly desired
  • Experience working in a Linux/Unix development environment
  • Proficient in debugging and troubleshooting skills
  • Adaptability and willingness to learn new software and tools
  • Strong design skills in a highly collaborative, distributed scrum team environment
  • Participation in Scrum ceremonies is required (story grooming, sprint planning, retrospectives, daily standup, etc…)
  • Ability to estimate level of effort and take responsibility and accountability of stories and tasks
  • Must be willing to openly collaborate, share knowledge, mentor fellow developers 

 

 

Nice to have:

  • Expert knowledge of XML, XSD, XSLT, and WADL
  • Expert knowledge of Scala
  • Experience with Python and Bash scripting
  • Strong knowledge of Puppet specifically
  • Working experience with PostgreSQL
  • Strong knowledge of Jenkins and Jenkinsfile
  • Experience with automating/orchestrating Cloud deployments
