    Overview & Responsibilities

    Rackspace is seeking a Big Data Delivery Engineer to join our Professional Services team full time in San Antonio or Remote Work from Home in the USA for exceptional candidates.


    What You’ll Do:

    • Apply Big Data product and technical knowledge during professional services engagements leading customers through big data transformation across multiple private and public cloud platforms.
    • Operate as a lead delivery engineer as part of a professional services delivery team working closely with project managers and client’s technical personnel.
    • Demonstrate strong competency across modern data technologies and cloud platforms to design, implement, troubleshoot and optimize advanced solutions.
    • Participate in projects including:  Open source technologies; Hadoop, Spark, Kafka, HBase, Hive, Cassandra, MongoDB, Neo4J. Experience in both batch and stream processing technologies.
    • Cloud data and analytic technologies; AWS: EMR, Athena, Redshift, Kinesis, Glue. Azure: HDInsight, ADLS, Data Lake Analytics, Event Hubs, SQL Data Warehouse. GCP: BigQuery, BigTable, Dataflow, DataProc.

    Job Complexity:

    • Serve as a subject matter expert for Big Data products or technologies to implement solutions as defined by statements of work.
    • Understand complex IT and business customer challenges as it pertains to the data domain and apply technology and product portfolio knowledge to solve problems in a consultative manner.
    • Aligns and regularly communicates with Project Manager and extended teams during project delivery to ensure timely delivery and awareness of potential problems or risk requiring resolution or mitigation.
    • Proactively identify potential issues and work through resolution with internal and external stakeholders.
    • Troubleshoot issues, perform root cause analysis and performance tuning. Monitor, log and test customer configurations for performance and stability.
    • Perpetually seek to improve and refine the Rackspace Professional Services methodology, deliverables, sales collateral, and team roles and alignment.
    • Build and maintain a network of cross-functional technical resources within Rackspace and across any relative partnerships to allow for higher productivity, increased business, and rapid resolution of problems and escalations.
    • Serve as a lead to other engineers.  Develop and implement best practices for team processes.
    • Occasional domestic travel, up to 50%.


    Required Qualifications:

    • High school diploma or equivalent required. Associate’s degree in technical field preferred. 
    • 7 - 9 years of relevant technical experience required, including a minimum of 4 years of engineering experience related to Big Data.
    • Exposure to a range of IT environments, industry sectors & technology stacks.
    • At least one top tier technical certifications in a highly desired technology domain.
    • Managed services, consulting, technical support, and/or application development experience preferred.

    Preferred experience with the following Open Source technologies:

    • Hadoop, Spark, Kafka, HBase, Hive
    • Cassandra, MongoDB, Neo4j
    • Experience in both batch and stream processing technologies

    Preferred experience with the following Cloud Data and Analytics technologies:

    • AWS – EMR, Athena, Redshift, Kinesis, Glue
    • Azure – HDInsight, ADLS, Data Lake Analytics, Event Hubs, SQL Data Warehouse
    • GCP – BigQuery, BigTable, Dataflow, DataProc

    Preferred experience with:

    • Machine Learning experience with either Spark Mllib or similar
    • Experience operationalizing models with Tensorflow
