    Overview & Responsibilities

    As a Technical Product Manager in the Cloud Office business unit, you are the bridge between product vision and technical implementation. You will work directly with product managers, developers, engineers and support teams in order to guide projects and ensure their success in an agile software development environment.

     

    You are the voice of Product on the Software Development “floor,” and you are responsible for translating the vision & strategy into actionable project plans for your development teams. 

    Aside from your Product Manager, no one knows the Product like you do.  Teams look to you for knowledge and clarity on the systems that you own.  You are responsible for ensuring that projects being released not only meet project requirements, but also deliver amazing customer experiences while meeting Product’s vision and strategy. You are the driving force that ensures that these projects are delivered according to the agreed upon timelines.

    Job Responsibilities 
     

    • Ability to dig in to the details of the systems you own with the goal of becoming a product expert. 
    • Champion Product’s vision and strategy throughout the organization. 
    • Write clear and concise directions, requirements & user stories for your development teams.
    • Play a proactive role in product planning and design to ensure the delivered product aligns with Product’s vision, strategy and requirements.
    • Understand the market in which your Product lives.
    • Involved throughout the entire lifecycle of the product, working closely with development teams from product initiation to delivery to eventual product retirement. 
    • Be uber-aware of the Support orgs concerns and opportunities that you can influence to continually push a Fanatical Support experience for customers  and Rackers alike.
    • Coach and mentor junior Technical Product Managers (as needed)
    • Take some ownership of your R&D org. Although your developers may not report to you, they will view you as the Sherpa guiding them up the mountain. This is implicit leadership and it is very, very important. 
    • Learn where your Product data lives. Learn to understand it. Learn to display and share it. 

     

    Job Complexity 

    • Strategic - medium level contributor to overall product strategy, roadmap, and releases. 
    • Responsible for creating user stories based on complex high level epics or stories, set acceptance criteria and tests, setting business value in sprint planning, setting backlog priorities, defining market needs, architecture, and complex ROI/Profitability. 
    • Responsible to work with operations and launch completed products.  Supervises and trains other technical product managers.

    Qualifications

     

    KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITY:

     

    • Knowledge of the IT industry and the product domain.
    • Strong understanding of business as it relates to the hosting industry.
    • Knowledge of product development life cycle (relevant experience in 1 or more phases).
    • Strong ability to work with diverse team and incoroporate needs and feedback from multiple sources.
    • Basic knowledge of product management and marketing
    • Technical product expert.

     

    EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION: 

     

    • Bachelor’s degree in related field plus 2-4 years of agile software development or project management required.
    • BS in Technology or Business preferred.
    • Relevant experience in 1 or more phases of product development life cycles.
