    Overview & Responsibilities

    Rackspace Managed Security Product Engineers are the tip of the spear concerning new security products, features, vendors, and tooling. They work closely with product management to conceptualize, design, develop, and test new features and upgrades to both new and existing product offerings. They provide assessment, qualification, and recommendation of technologies and vendors based on strategic roadmaps and comprehensive test plans. They own the security tooling capability and capacity assessment, architecture development, and qualification testing process, ensuring no facet or requirement of a tool is untested.


    In this role you will work closely with Product Managers to execute against product roadmaps as new operating systems and product versions are released, and new product capabilities are created. Product Engineers are the masters of our products, understanding a product’s capabilities, including UI, API, integration, implementation, supportable architectures, and any limitations associated with them. Product Engineers are expected to know the security industry and associated tools and products like the back of their hand and should be able to answer any technical question about our product offering. Lastly, they serve as a technical escalation point for both sales and support.


    Job Duties/ Responsibilities: 

    • Work closely with product management to evaluate new tools/vendors based on product requirements and provides assessments and recommendations on tool/vendor feasibility
    • Work closely with product management to assess new features and capabilities of existing products/tools based on vendor or Rackspace roadmap
    • Define architecture for tool implementation/integration and assists with introduction of production deployments and associated escalations
    • Create and maintains RMS lab environments for testing and integration purposes
    • Create automated test frameworks where new technologies and tool versions can be tested easily against multiple Rackspace environments (managed hosting, FAWS, etc.) and operating systems
    • Create and execute comprehensive test plans for each tool or system tested – includes UI, API, architecture, and integration.
    • Identify and document gaps in tools vs. product requirements
    • Identify and document inconsistencies within tooling (for example – API does not contain all functionality of UI, etc.)
    • Enable sales by building proof of concept environments for one-offs and defining supportable architectures
    • Work with RMS development and operations teams by assisting with production system implementation
    • Assist sales and support by talking to customers pre and post sales in the event of product specific questions
    • Provide forward-looking, strategic vendor/tool assessments and recommendations to product management via security research, industry activities, education, and training
    • Stay up to date with security news and vendor and technology landscape




    • Manage execution of tasks on multiple concurrent projects. Responsible for creation of project documents (OSID, qualification plans, issue lists, etc).
    • Lead and/or mentor other Product Engineers.
    • Works independently with extended teams in CORE, portal, Billing, SalesForce, Oracle, RSTops and Support to ensure all requirements for new products are documented and understood.
    • Provides input to PM on resource negotiations, managing workload and setting schedules.
    • Active participant in extended teams. Technical escalation point for other PEs.
    • Ability to communicate technical info and ideas so others will understand.
    • Ability to make appropriate decisions considering the relative costs and benefits of potential actions.
    • Ability to successfully work and promote inclusiveness in small groups.
    • Ability to provide FANATICAL support.




    • 2 year Technical Degree or equivalent.
    • Some advanced schooling or certifications.
    • 5-7+ years work experience in Cyber Security Engineering, Architecture, Product Development or Multi-Cloud Technology.
    • Previous management or leadership experience preferred.
